Dear Parents,
We are happy to report to you that our 3-4 team will be taking a field trip to the Ethan Allen Homestead on Thursday, June 2nd. We will leave school at 9:15 a.m. and return at 2:30 p.m. We will have a chance to pretend to be in a tavern from the 1700’s and listen in on conversations between Ethan Allen and his fellow Vermonters. In smaller groups, we will explore the homestead where Ethan Allen spent the last years of his life with his second wife, Fanny, and their three children and we will play a bartering game where we will trade goods we produce for goods our neighbors produce. These activities support nicely our study of VT history.
The bus and the entrance fee have been fund raised for us by the PTO and we really appreciate their efforts. There is an optional gift shop with souvenirs priced between 5 and 10 dollars. Do not feel obligated to give your child money. This is totally up to the student and his/her family.
Students will need a bag lunch and snack. We will eat the snack before we get on the bus and there are picnic tables for our lunch or an indoor spot if it is raining. We are going whether it is raining or sunny and part of the visit is walking outdoors, so students need to be dressed appropriately.
Please do not schedule a doctor’s or other appointment for your child for this day and please let us know if you can come. Chaperones are welcome. Please call Sue in the office at 372 3660 or email Mrs. Robinson at terrobi@gisu.org.
