Supermoon

Having studied space last school year I wanted to share this tidbit in case you hadn't heard yet! As long as skies are clear we will be able to see the Supermoon this weekend. As you know, the moon orbits Earth. The moon's path of orbit is not an exact circle. This makes it so the moon appears smaller when it is in its path farthest away from us and it appears larger when it is closest to us. This weekend it will be closer to us than it will be any other time in 2014. According to NASA scientist Noah Petro, who was interviewed by WCAX Channel 3 News, it will look 14% larger than normal and 30% brighter this weekend! Last night you could see craters without a telescope! If you get a chance to step outside be sure to check it out. It will be visible any time after moonrise, at 7:48pm.
