SHHS (South Hero Historical Society) Feb. 7th Program

Hi Parents, The South Hero Historical Society is going to have their first program for the 2014 year on Friday, Feb. 7th at 7:00pm in Julie Pidgeon’s room at Folsom. It is a very kid-friendly program and we want to let you know about it. We’re Back! The SHHS (South Hero Historical Society) will begin to offer programs again on the first Friday of each month. We meet at the Folsom School in Julie Pidgeon’s room at 7PM. Our first program, which is very appropriate for students, is listed below. SHHS FEATURES BEING A TEEN IN THE FIFTIES Joyce Robinson Blow and Susan McBride Crowley will share stories of growing up in So. Hero on Friday, Feb 7, @7:00 PM at Folsom Educational Center. Both are from families who have lived here for generations. Joyce is the daughter of Hollis and Dorilda Robinson. Hollis was a carpenter and caught sturgeon which he shipped by train to Boston. As a child Joyce would help meet the train and transport “city slickers” and their servants to their summer homes. She has many stories of the train station and its station master. Sue was the daughter of Helen and Henry McBride. They lived on a farm on West Shore Road where he also had a sawmill. Her grandfather helped build the railroad and her grandmother cooked meals for the railroad workers. As teens and tweens Joyce and Sue and their friends often rode the train into Burlington to the movies. As can be expected, they had many adventures.
